Sergeant First Class Mathew J. Vickers has dedicated more than 25 years to the United States Army and the Florida Army National Guard, demonstrating unwavering commitment and excellence throughout his career.
Enlisting in June 1999, SFC Vickers completed basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he laid the foundation of his military career. Following boot camp, he attended the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) Qualification Course for 14J at Fort Bliss, Texas, and subsequently graduated from Advanced Individual Training (AIT). He was then stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he began applying his skills in an operational environment.
In June 2002, SFC Vickers transitioned to the Florida Army National Guard, allowing him to serve his community while continuing his military career.
In 2003, he attended the MOS-T course for 14S, enhancing his expertise in air defense artillery. In 2012, he further expanded his skill set by transitioning to the MOS of 14G. Between 2014 and 2018, SFC Vickers served as an instructor, teaching both 14G and 14S MOS-T courses as well as the Basic Leader Course (BLC) and Advanced Leader Course (ALC). His commitment to mentoring future leaders exemplifies his dedication to the Army's mission.
In 2022, SFC Vickers completed the Mission Command Digital Master Gunner Course at Fort Leavenworth, further broadening his tactical and leadership capabilities.
Throughout his distinguished career, SFC Vickers has deployed multiple times, both within the continental United States (CONUS) and globally (OCONUS), fulfilling essential roles in various operations. His experience and versatility have made him a valuable asset to the Air Defense Artillery community.
