Professional Bio
Jim graduated and received his Army commission in 1990 as an Air Defense Artillery Officer. Jim subsequently served in a variety of tactical, joint, and coalition formations across the United States, Europe, Pacific, and Middle East.
Jim’s last assignment on active duty was as the Assistant Commandant of the Army’s Air Defense Branch; Ft Sill, OK.
Prior to duty as the Assistant Commandant, Jim commanded the 30th ADA Brigade. As the school Brigade Commander, he was responsible for all Air Defense Officer, Warrant Officer and Enlisted technical training and education. Jim spearheaded fundamental and progressive changes to how the Air Defense and Army educated and trained Soldiers.
Jim also served as the G3 and G8, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command (AAMDC) with over 7,000 people geographically separated over six states and eight countries. Jim routinely worked with CENTCOM, service components, Joint Staff, Army Staff, the acquisition community, six Army Posts, four ADA Brigades, and foreign militaries. In this capacity, Jim directed and oversaw the Army’s Force Generation Process (ARFORGEN) for the Air Defense branch, that saw fully 60% of the entire force either forwardly deployed or stationed. As the 32nd AAMDC G8 (O6/COL) Jim was the principal advisor to the commanding general for budget, audit readiness, and force modernization.
Jim received his B.S. (Engineering Management; Civil) from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1990 and a master’s in strategic studies from the Army War College (resident course) in 2012. Jim is a native Texan, growing up outside of El Paso, but now makes Huntsville, Alabama his home with his lovely wife of over 33 years, Lisa. They have three boys and one girl, two of which still live at home. Jim enjoys weightlifting, whiskey, cigars, classic car restoration.
