January 12, 1919

Antiaircraft Deliberations Panel chaired by BG William Westerveit convenes at Chaumont, France to determine specifications for U.S. Army antiaircraft artillery.

 

January 17, 1991

Gulf War, U.S. – led coalition launches the Operation Desert Storm air campaign with massive air and missile strikes against Iraq. The Patriot Missile system will make a huge impact, to become the ‘Scud Busters’ and the crews are credited with downing 44 of the 45 TBMs engaged.

 

January 25, 1968

Vietnam, Ambush on Route 9, the 1 Battalion, 44th Air Defense Regiment, and Golf Battery, 65th Air Defense Regiment spearhead a QRF mission in an attempt to rescue the 1 Marines. Captain Vincent J. Tedesco Jr’s leadership ensures the relief mission’s success.  His actions will earn him the Silver Star.  In all, 72 Purple Hearts will be awarded as a result of fierce close-courters combat
