The Ancient Order

ADAA - Award SOP

 

 

The more distinguished of the two levels of the Military Society of Saint Barbara. It recognizes the select few who stand above their brethren of the Honorable Order. The specific criteria for accession into the Ancient Order is to have performed conspicuous, long-term service for or on behalf of the United States Army Air Defense Artillery. The Ancient Order is reserved for an elite few whose careers have embodied the spirit, dignity and sense of sacrifice and commitment

epitomized by Saint Barbara. Membership in the Honorable Order is a prerequisite for membership in the Ancient Order.

 

**The approving authority for all awards of the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara is the Commanding General of the Fires Center of Excellence at Fort Sill.  The Commanding General may approve, disapprove or downgrade the nomination to the Honorable Order as he deems appropriate.

 

 

The Honorable Order

 

 

The Honorable Order recognizes those individuals who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character, displayed an outstanding degree of competence and served the United States Army Air Defense Artillery Branch with selflessness.  They must have significantly contributed to the promotion of the Air Defense Artillery in ways that stand out in the eyes of the recipient’s seniors, subordinates, and peers alike.

 

Nominations for the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara must be made by a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara and approved by a member of the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara. The Commanding General of the Fires Center of Excellence reserves the right to waive any requirements. All Honorable Order of Saint Barbara nominees must be an ADAA member. Those who are not current members will need to follow the proper procedures to procure membership with the ADAA.

 

 

 

Artillery Order of Molly Pitcher

 

 

The Artillery Order of Molly Pitcher recognizes individuals who have voluntarily contributed in a significant way to the improvement of the Air Defense Artillery Community.

 

Nominations for the Honorable Order of Molly Pitcher must be made by a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara and approved by a member of the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara.  All Molly Pitcher nominees or their spouses must be an ADAA Member. Those who are not or whose spouses may not be members, will need to follow the proper procedures to procure membership with the ADAA.

 

 

Award Packet Procedures (Honorable/Molly Pitcher awards)

 

Our SOP is under revision to reflect the following correction: Officers must be a Captain and have completed, or currently serving, a successful battery command for one year. They must also be CCC graduates and attach their DA 1059 to submission packet.

 

1. All nominees, Honorable Order and Molly Pitcher, must be current members of the United States Air Defense Artillery Association.  (Molly Pitcher nominees are not required to purchase a membership if their spouse is a current member. Please include spouses; first and last name if a current member).  Any nominee who is not a current member may purchase a lifetime membership by contacting our office or filling out the Membership Form from the website and sending it in.

 

 

2. Completion of the Honorable Order of St. Barbara order form. The order form must be signed by the Nominator (this has to be an Honorary Order of St. Barbara Recipient) it also needs the signature of the Approver (this is to be an Ancient Order of St. Barbara in your chain of command, if you do not have an Ancient recipient please attach a memo to your packet signed by the Commander listing all the nominees names and stating that he/she approves the following request ).

 

If you have more than one nominee being nominated, your packet will need to include one nomination form with ALL names listed and an individual memorandum for each nominee and ONE form of payment for all awards.

 

When filling out your award form be sure to do the following:

 

*State the date the award Ceremony is taking place

 

*Make sure the spelling of names and rank are correct this is how the names will appear on the certificate.

 

*Add the shipping address that the certificates should be sent.

 

*Include ADAA member number for each nominee

 

DO NOT SUBMIT MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION WITH PACKET, IT MUST BE DONE BEFORE PACKET IS SUBMITTED OR PACKET WILL BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AND WILL BE RETURNED

 

 

3. 2-3 paragraph write up, to include any and all significant contributions your nominee has made to the Air Defense Artillery branch and your unit and a short bio

 

 

4. Submit your completed packet. Timeline is as follows:

Between October and January

 

No later than 8 weeks prior to event

 

The rest of the year

 

CONUS: No later than 6 weeks prior to event

 

OCONUS: No later than 8 weeks prior to event

All nomination packets must be complete before submission, any incomplete packets will be returned for completion

 

 

 

 

 

Our SOP is under revision to reflect the following requirement: "Officers must be COL or above selected for, currently serving as, or have successfully completed one year of Brigade command, AAMDC DCO/COS, DOD/ARMY Staff, Joint Staff, TCM, or MiTT."
Please make sure your nominee meets this criteria before nominating.

 

 

All nomination packets must be complete before submission, any incomplete packets will be returned for completion

 

1. All nominees must first be Honorable Order of St. Barbara recipients.

 

 

2. Nominations for the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara MUST be made by a member of the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara.

 

The Nominating Authority for the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara is the first ADA Colonel (06) in the chain of command. If no ADA Colonel exists in the chain, authority reverts to the first ADA Lieutenant Colonel (05) or the highest ranking ADA officer in the chain of command.

 

The Approving Authority will be the CG of the Fires Center of Excellence (leave approving authority signature blank on the order form for Ancient nominations only)

 

 

3. Fill out ALL information on the nomination order form. (except the approving authority signature)

 

*When filling out your award form be sure to do the following:

4. Include a memorandum

This memorandum is a synopsis of the nominee's military and educational career, highlighting major contributions to the branch. It should contain sufficient detail about the candidate to enable the ADA Commandant to make an informed judgment.

 

 

 5. If approved, the Commandant will forward to the CG for his review and approval.  If disapproved at either level, we will make contact with you.

 

 

 6. Submit your completed packet. Timeline is as follows:

 

 

Between October and January

 

 No later than 10 weeks prior to event

 

(keep in mind this is a suggestion, timelines are subject to reviewers availability)

 

 

The rest of the year

 

CONUS: No later than 8 weeks prior to event

 

OCUNUS: No late than 10 weeks prior to event
